ALI GARCIA – A trip to Costa Rica

The idea for the Vandesande hair care line came to me during a trip to Costa Rica. While in Costa Rica I met Ali Garcia Segura, researcher/ethnologist and teacher. Ali took me to the Rainforest of Talamanca where I met the Bribri people who are one of the eight indigenous tribes of Costa Rica. He introduced me to a Bribri healer who shared the way the Bribi people live. I was deeply impressed by how they respect and live in harmony with nature. I saw how their native plants play an important role in their daily health and well-being. That is the reason why I continue to collaborate with Mr. Garcia Segura on the Vandesande Bio-Botanical Hair Care product line.

On his way to Buthan to attend an international conference on Ethnobotanicals (http://www.uwice.gov.bt) Ali had a stop over in Los Angeles so we met and exchange information on new ingredients for the future. Here is another link about such an important subject (http://ethnobiology.net)

Ali Garcia is the president of “The Skoki Center for a sustainable Future”

The Skoki Center was established in 1996 to create opportunities for the Bribi and other indigenous people of the Central American rainforest, particularly to preserve the “Biosphere Reserve” of the Talamanca Mountain Range- declared “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO in 1983
